Currituck planners support zoning change
"Currituck’s commercial waterman have plied the eastern shores of the Albemarle Sound for centuries, searching for daily catches of soft shell crab, flounder, striped bass and other seasonal fish. Seafaring has become synonymous with the county’s culture and history, and the pastime continues in present day.
Yet many professional fishermen — about 240 registered commercial vessels in the county — are unable to find proper docking for their boats while scouring the seas, and can be arrested or fined for parking their boats in zoning areas that do not permit commercial vessels.
In residentially-zoned areas, for example, commercial boats are not permitted to dock. That could be about to change. And not to the liking of the local residents."
