S 2766 - Clean Boating Act of 2008
a.k.a. EPA Permit Relief Bill
There is a major piece of legislation about to pass if we sit by and do nothing…it is a new EPA requirement that all commercial vessels including charter headboats with commercial licenses have an EPA permit for water discharge, there are major penalties and fines attached also. Both commercial and recreational vessels have been exempt for 35 years, but this new bill will only exempt recreational vessels.
We need a major call-in (get all of your contacts to call in to Burr and Dole today, or as soon as possible) to Burr and Dole who have co-sponsored this bill which exempts recreational boats only from draconian new EPA regulations.
We are asking that they support Senator Lisa Murkowski’s amendment to the bill that would add commercial boats to the exemption as it has been for more than 35 years.
S. 2766, the Clean Boating Act of 2008 (aka, EPA Permit Relief Bill)
Call Dole and Burr and ask them as co-sponsors, to help work out a compromise to add commercial vessels to the bill.
Do it now…this battle is being fought as we speak.
Senator Elizabeth Dole (202-224-6342), Senator Richard Burr (202-224-3154)
